Xin nian kuai le, nian nian you yu

Reading my fave blogs from Singapore with all the talk about CNY made me suffer a sudden pang of homesickness. Mr. D was probably more keen on returning to Singapore for a visit during this time than I. I just never had CNY away from home. The verdict? It kind of sucks. Well, that’s not fair, but it just feels weird.

I never hankered after CNY goodies and I used to unabashedly say my favourite part of CNY was the moolah. But I don’t care about the moolah. In fact, I kept thinking about my family during the reunion dinner. Images of the steamboat bubbling away while the doggies barked and ran around the dinner table brought some sadness to my heart. I miss them.

Mum and dad are cool. My mum reminded me of my tax returns while dad filled me in on the goss. Apparently my elder sis is having serious problems with my bro-in-law. She has been home with my folks for more than a month already. The word ‘divorce’ was floating around but dad didn’t know the outcome of their marriage counseling session in their church. My younger sis is busy with her new job….and that’s about it, I guess.

I felt so happy listening to their voices. I made the call outside Roppongi Hills’ Hong Kong Teahouse Restaurant where I was having a reunion dinner with Mr. D, a friend from Singapore and his Japanese friend. The dim sum rocked as usual, plus I had my fave roast duck noodle soup and rice dumpling almond dessert. Authentic Chinese food was just what the doctor ordered.

Happy Chinese New Year, my friends. I miss you very much. Every year there’s always a friend or two who will visit my parents’ house or I would go over to their homes to say hello or hang out and drink or gamble…I don’t even like eating mandarin oranges but I miss having them around. My silly goat moment will pass soon. Mr. D bought two bottles of Veuve champagne for tonight’s dinner at a friend’s house. He thought since it’s a special day, we should celebrate a little. I’m glad he thinks it’s important.

awww, be happy you are having an exciting time! although i must say despite the usual bunch of stuff u do during cny, the once in a year family gatherings should not be discarded in favour of modernism and less traditions. ultimately, the family gatherings help the family stay in intact in harmony and keep the ties going.

your sis home for OVER a month doesn’t sound too good eh! what kinda problems do they have?
