Who am I...?

An ex-journo and former techno phobe from Singapore living in Tokyo, I worked in print media for six years until I moved countries in 2006 and used the Internet as a way to have a viable, mobile career. Now, I'm a blogger on the go who runs an online beauty biz from wherever I might be. I never thought I would ever morph into a web chick - but here I am.

This blog is about...

...The ups and downs of expat life, trailing partner issues, food, travel, and Japanese culture. It's a way to keep in touch with friends back home and all over the world, plus it's a corner for me to showcase my work. But really, I'm just a restless spirit looking for great adventures and fabulous food.

Rested…at last

Not much to update in rainy Tokyo, except the kangaroo is back in the shoebox. We’re just hanging out with friends or pigging out at home. A typhoon passed over the city but it was a weak one as it lost its momentum after doing some serious damage in Okinawa and Kyushu.

Last night, the kangaroo and I sampled a variety of cocktails at the jazz bar near our place. It’s a tiny hole-in-the-wall joint that pipes jazz tunes and has an impressive wall of liquor. The bartenders are friendly and whip up delicious drinks. I even hopped over one evening when I had nothing to do — I ended up speaking a lot of Japanese while slowly getting pleasantly inebriated.

Anyway, we slept heavily over the weekend. It’s just what the doctor ordered as I had been plagued by the kind of fatigue an eight-hour sleep won’t erase. The kangaroo has been wiped out by a month of business travel, too, so it’s been perfect that we had a slow weekend. The rain made it even more cosy to slumber during our 11-hour snooze marathon. It’s also a public holiday tomorrow and I’m just relishing every little bit of free time.

Heading over to a friend’s farewell later but other than that I have nothing on my schedule. Flopping over to the futon to read a book. Ahh… ‘tis a real weekend.
