Partying in Zushi

10 Aug

It’s pouring here in Tokyo this dreary Monday, so I thought talking about my Zushi beach trip is timely to remember that it is, in fact, summer.

If you want to head to a “nearby” beach from Tokyo, Kamakura and Zushi are over an hour away by train. The beaches here are quite ordinary but it’s the closest thing you get to experiencing some beach life. It was so crowded. though.

One thing I noticed was the women loved wearing bikinis with little skirts. Eight out of 10 girls wore some variation of this style and I’m not sure if it’s the sleekest of beach fashion on display in Zushi.

When we went three weeks ago, it was quite windy as you can see from the photo. My hair looks frozen in its windswept glory…

We sat around in a beach café where I had a frozen mango (I thought it was a drink, but what came was a piece of frozen mango literally)…

…and one of the best cooked vegetarian food ever: falafel…

You can get omiyage (gifts you give after returning from a trip) on the beach too:

Our main purpose of heading to Zushi was the party at Otodama Sea Studio, a club smack on the beachfront:

The tunes were spun by DJ Shinichi Osawa and another dude I can’t recall. Apparently they are both quite famous and perform in Tokyo clubs, too.

I snuck this picture in before I got told by the bouncer to put away my camera.

We took a break from dancing when it was sunset:

Here’s another picture of the kangaroo and me. It certainly felt quite magical to hang out to the sounds of booming beats, crashing waves, and the cool sea breeze.

Looks like it was a good time. I haven’t been to the beach yet this year :(
