Our first harvest
10 Dec
One of the things that the kangaroo always asks about when he is away is, “How’s the garden doing?”
He puts a lot of love into this tiny veggie patch we have in our terrace and reminds me to sprinkle pesticide powder to ward off slugs and other leaf-munching critters.
After four long months, we had our first harvest of bok choy yesterday. This type of vegetable should only take six weeks to grow to full size but there isn’t a lot of sun in our terrace so it takes much longer for our plants to flourish.
The carrots are still too small to dig up and the basil shriveled up because it couldn’t take the cold.
Look at those leaves – yum!
The proud gardener…
I stir-fried our harvest with soy sauce, mirin, garlic, and sesame oil. All I can say is eating your own garden veggies tastes a lot crunchier and sweeter than store bought ones — whether or not that’s true, I don’t know, but it made an ordinary week day dinner quite exciting.

LOL – erm…. they look organic but we used chemical pesticides. I gave ‘em a good wash though!
