Who am I...?

I'm a web editor from Singapore living in Tokyo. I'm building websites for a living as a writer on the go. I worked in print media for six years until I moved countries and used the Internet as a way to have a viable, mobile career. The Internet is a fascinating space and I never thought I would ever morph into a web chick - but here I am.

This blog is about...

...The ups and downs of expat life, trailing partner issues, food, travel, and Japanese culture. It's a way to keep in touch with friends back home and all over the world, plus it's a corner for me to showcase my work. But really, I'm just a restless spirit looking for great adventures and fabulous food.

Oskarisamadeshta

The title means, “Good work.”

I’m not normally in the habit of praising myself after doing a good job but this is the phrase one says when you’ve finished a great meal or a combined effort of a hard day’s work. Everyone tittered, “Oskarisamadeshta!” after the last person presented.

Today was the puresentashon tesuto (presentation test). Everyone spoke on interesting topics — from Shinjuku’s nightlife to Japanese desserts to Korean night markets. It was surprisingly enjoyable (partly due to a much-needed break from learning grammar everyday). I can’t say I had the smoothest of presentations but I tried my best and even managed to extract a few laughs and post-speech questions about onsen culture. For me, that’s good enough.

I’ve got two exams down and two more to go. The marathon will end soon — thank f****. I’m tired. Soldiering on with the kanji now.
