Notes on Nepal
Subject: Minutes from Nepal Meeting - Tokyo 30 Nov:
Present: Yu Ming, Ben.
Apologies: Deckles.
Discussion Points:
- Mrs Deckles blames me for stealing Christmas
- Tokyo family have purchased Lonely Plannet but no evidence of opening
- Discussed Route and update on Training
- Impressed at the complexity of number 21 in Nepalese script and that
Deckles can read this already.
Action items agreed:
- Yu Ming to begin serious cycle training from Sunday
- Yu Ming to participate in 120km cycle test circuit of Singapore with Pat
prior to departure
- Deckles to purchase air tickets this weekend
Thanks kiddies … Let’s have an update on above actions on Mon.
Regards,
Boss
From the kangaroo on Dec 3:
My action items:
- flights - booked. I’m flying with Ben on the 20th and returning on the
5th, though I’m flying business class. Yu Ming is flying on the 25th
(economy - sorry honey) and returning on the 5th (business class also). SQ tell me that the tickets should be at the Singapore Accountant’s office by this time next week.
- convince Mrs Deckles to call off the hit on Ben for ruining Xmas - I think I have succeeded - trade off for not taking out Ben is that I have to earn enough points to fly her to London on my points sometime late next year…
- will learn Nepalese up to the number 50 tonight…
- going to start thinking about equipment needs - and we’ll go shopping this Sunday in Tokyo… also landing in Singapore on the 13th, so 1 week to prepare then too…
Boss’ reply:
Brilliant - great work both! Sound’s like we’re back on track!
My cycling training report on Dec 4:
Had first training sesh on a bike today. after two and a half hours spinning around central tokyo, i can weave through crowds of salarymen but ran over an old dude’s toe. he shouted: “OI!” and shook his fist at me but i whizzed off.
May the force be with me.
Boss’ reply:
brilliant! Great stuff!
Shopping query to the boss:
hi ben,
how are ya? TGIF and only three weeks more to mission impossible.
need some advice about the winter cycling jacket. what kind of material should it be? what brands should we look at? i’ve visited some forums and cyclists have conflicting advice.
thanks!
Boss’ reply:
Ya … heading out to get Mabok (to get drunk) tonight!!!
I’m not sure about brands for cycling jackets but my advice is to get something that you would also wear when you’re not cycling so you don’t waste too much money on something you’ll only use for 2 weeks - most of the cycle brands will have really bright jackets with reflective material which means you wouldn’t wear it otherwise. I use a Nth Face jacket something like this http://www.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=NA&model=AP6Y&language=en but with zips under the arms which are great when it gets hot … detachable arms would be even better. You want to get something with some warmth but not too much … it’s better to wear warm layers underneath which you can take off as it gets very hot once you start moving.
