Who am I...?

I'm a web editor from Singapore living in Tokyo. I'm building websites for a living as a writer on the go. I worked in print media for six years until I moved countries and used the Internet as a way to have a viable, mobile career. The Internet is a fascinating space and I never thought I would ever morph into a web chick - but here I am.

This blog is about...

...The ups and downs of expat life, trailing partner issues, food, travel, and Japanese culture. It's a way to keep in touch with friends back home and all over the world, plus it's a corner for me to showcase my work. But really, I'm just a restless spirit looking for great adventures and fabulous food.

Look at what greeted me in my inbox today

Let me just preface this entry with a small introduction. I actually posted this yesterday morning but I took it down because I had mixed feelings. Several friends and the kangaroo all had different votes for a response or not. Those who were for hurling back a reply said, “You should speak up and what’s wrong with a good fight?” Others who were against it shared the sentiment of, “Just ignore this weirdo, he just wants you to get riled up.” True, and true.

Well, I came to a decision that this is worth publishing as it was a snapshot of my reaction right after I read this comment. I’m human and have many shades to my personality. This is probably a small incident in the whole scheme of a blog — I mean, who doesn’t ever get “slimed”, in Singaporean speak, or criticised?

Also, I don’t want my blog to be a series of happy shiny moments, though I do have quite a happy shiny personality. So here goes…let me know what you think.

What a bitch you are.

Sure you clearly did not like these people but did you have to post about them all on the internet? Most people with half a grain of decency would have not been so creul. Also your reply/ explanation is shit to be frank. I am none of the above people and also a Journalist in Tokyo but what you wrote and the fact that you feel aggrieved that these people so much as tried to be friendly really incenses me. Go and get a job and stop sitting on your arse, introspecting and updating your pretentious little website, considering yourself as a superior person, perhaps you should do some work on your personality and the way you treat others?

Lovely to see my Anonymous critic has appeared again with more insults. Okay, journalist in Tokyo with a capital ‘J’, let me ask you this: Why don’t you show who you are? Most journalists I know would leave their names on whatever they write. I think you’re the one who is feeling superior and has to “police” the Internet of such shallow, pretentious bloggers like me. Why, how kind of you to provide such a service to us all.

Also, if my blog is such a pain to read, why are you lingering around? You are obviously scouring not just my old blog, but my new one, too! I feel flattered to have such an admirer, stalking me, and making me feel so special with your attention. Again, why was my explanation “shit”? Please, back up your statements. You are angry because I rebuffed people you apparently don’t know — isn’t that just being a tad personal…?

By the way, I have a job. I’m a web editor from 9 to 6 everyday. Ah, maybe you don’t follow my website as closely as I thought. Are you truly a journalist? You are flinging dramatic statements with no evidence. Are you so morally upright that you have an untainted history of treating people with utmost respect? Who are you anyway — some crusader for underdogs who were treated so badly by some lazy-arsed expat from Singapore who does nothing but write a fluffy blog?

If you are a journalist as you say you are, that’s some Mickey Mouse hobby of yours to leave anonymous critique like you did.

I am floored that somebody I don’t know would tell me to work on my personality. The way I see it, you’re the one with serious issues. If you hate what I write, don’t come here and shit all over my space on the Internet.

Thanks for making my Monday morning so pleasant and introspective.

Nasty but juicy. There will always be awlful people out there. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. No one is agreeable everytime. But there really isnt any point in rebutting when people start being nasty and personal - it’s an endless cycle. Dont engage this person. Just keep writing what you feel like writing. I may not agree with everything you say or share every value you hold. But at least i take things with a pinch of salt and i’m still reading every now and then :)

Yup, I decided if my Anonymous critic appeared again, I will not engage in anything he/she says. But it was a good blogging experience nonetheless.

Since I fixed my comments box, I am expecting more differing opinions which I welcome.

    Thanks for dropping by sometimes.
