Heart pounding…
The picture above is an anti-nausea medicine that comes in powder sachets. It is recommended for those suffering from colds, fever, sore throats and vomiting. I am amazed that there is such a multi-purpose medicine — almost a cure-all.
This funky medicine actually contains ephedrine, a common treatment for asthma, seasickness, and also an ingredient in diet pills as an appetite suppressant. Ephedrine comes from the same family as amphetamines – which explains my thumping heart and dry mouth. I’m trying to breathe deeply and ride out the strange effect this thing is having on me.
At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I am sick again. Perhaps it was the scorching, humid weather in Singapore, the dubious hawker food, running in the 5pm heat…. Whatever was the cause I fell ill with flu, high fever, terrible migraines and a hacking cough. My folks nagged me to postpone my trip back to Tokyo but I had to make it back for the kangaroo’s birthday-cum-networking bash. The irony is, I still can’t go.
The fever broke on the way to Changi airport and I felt comfortable enough to nap on the plane.
Unfortunately, perhaps due to my weakened state, I caught a stomach bug this morning. After retching my guts out in the toilet, I felt dizzy and feverish.
The kangaroo was very worried — he sped out to get some white bread and medicine. The night before, he surprised me with making creamy chicken pasta for dinner, because I wasn’t feeling well.
It’s very comforting to have a partner who cares this much. I have always been very strong and healthy so this spate of illness in the first half of the year is bewildering. Perhaps it’s to do with a high pace of activity, change in weather, and maybe turning…..3-0.
If you’ve been wondering about the lack in posting, this is why. I’ll be back soon…
