Let me just preface this entry with a small introduction. I actually posted this yesterday morning but I took it down because I had mixed feelings. Several friends and the kangaroo all had different votes for a response or not. Those who were for hurling back a reply said, “You should speak up and what’s wrong with a good fight?” Others who were against it shared the sentiment of, “Just ignore this weirdo, he just wants you to get riled up.” True, and true.
Well, I came to a decision that this is worth publishing as it was a snapshot of my reaction right after I read this comment. I’m human and have many shades to my personality. This is probably a small incident in the whole scheme of a blog — I mean, who doesn’t ever get “slimed”, in Singaporean speak, or criticised?
Also, I don’t want my blog to be a series of happy shiny moments, though I do have quite a happy shiny personality. So here goes…let me know what you think.
What a bitch you are.
Sure you clearly did not like these people but did you have to post about them all on the internet? Most people with half a grain of decency would have not been so creul. Also your reply/ explanation is shit to be frank. I am none of the above people and also a Journalist in Tokyo but what you wrote and the fact that you feel aggrieved that these people so much as tried to be friendly really incenses me. Go and get a job and stop sitting on your arse, introspecting and updating your pretentious little website, considering yourself as a superior person, perhaps you should do some work on your personality and the way you treat others?

Besides loving Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida, I think I am sharing a little bit more with its frontman, Chris Martin.
He did an interview with Rollingstone and was asked how he kept his hunger for his career going, “You’ve got to be hungry. If your wife went out with Brad Pitt, you’d want to prove yourself, you know what I mean?” Wow, the guy has some self-deprecating wit.

I got my first nasty comment in the history of this two-year-old blog, which set me thinking a lot in the past few days. I wanted to wait a little for some inspiration on how to intelligently create a response, rather than fall back on a simple rant.
Here is the comment but if you are interested to read it within context, it’s at my old blog address:
“The problem is you! You are clearly a spoiled low class bottom feeder and trust me the people in this world that know the difference will smell you a mile away. You may have been annoyed but your writing nails you as the cheap dirtbag that you really are. Disgusting human being. Sorry that worthless trashy people like you take up space in this world.” (Signed off as Anonymous)
My first reaction was, “Yikes, who is this from? What an angry comment!”
My second reaction was, “Wow, my first ‘controversial’ comment — maybe it shows that my blog is making more of an impact on the blogosphere!”
My third thought was, “Gosh am I really spoiled?!”

Yes, I’ve been struggling with my energy levels today because of a whirlwind five days. After two cups of coffee, I still feel exhausted.
Before a dear friend touched down at Narita from New York, I went out for a casual dinner and drinks to pass some DVDs back to another gal pal but somehow the shouchu I had kept me awake till dawn. There was no turning back, especially when said friend arrived and we embarked on some speedy shopping, eating, clubbing, and heart-to-heart talk. It was dead fun, but man, I’m tired.

Always a fan of trendy new stuff, I was highly tickled by the moon cup that a friend told me about.
The manufacturers were obviously inspired by the connection of a woman’s menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle. New moon = flow comes to town; Full moon = ovulation time. I had a fuzzy notion of it and half expected something about werewolves (well, there is metaphorical biting and lots of blood involved), but glad that Wikipedia cleared it up for me.
Basically it is a silicone cup that is inserted much like a tampon (without an applicator methinks) and “collects” the blood. I know, ewww, but there are several reasons for the gaining popularity of this simple invention.

This lovely purple flower has been growing bigger and bigger in our terrace. I just had to take a picture of it.
It’s the end of another week and it’s almost the end of June. That means I’ve been in Japan for 21 months already — wow, has it been that long? I still feel like a stranger in a very strange land.
Maybe it’s time for a personal update. I like it here. This year has been slower in terms of social stuff but it was necessary to focus 110 per cent on work. I have been distracted and running out of creative steam for the past two weeks, but as you can tell, I’m not really bugged by it.

As I am typing this, my back and my right arm are terribly sore and stiff. It has been a rough few days navigating life with an increasingly painful backache. The kangaroo has been giving me massages with heat rub after hot showers and half-hour stretches. But those just gave temporary relief, and I would spend the night tossing and turning in a creaky, excruciating manner.
I actually felt quite sore after a tennis session three weekends ago, but I think with constant mousing at my Mac and possibly a very flat futon (the kangaroo has no problems with his back, so maybe not), my back just got worse. It was after a couple of jogging sessions that the pain became serious, so a massage was in order.

I previously blogged about my pug, Taffy, where I wrote about how old she’s getting.
The day after I left for Tokyo, my mother found a small tooth on the stairwell where Taffy always naps — my elder sister said my mum was sad and told everyone to “pet” her more, or to stroke her in Singlish. She said that old folk nearing their end tend to lose their teeth. I don’t know how true is that…

Heya, Lioness in Japan has moved to www.luiyuming.com. Yup, I finally got my own domain name. This idea has been incubating for awhile, and with the kangaroo’s help, I was able to update everything in just two days.

For the benefit of those who are still new to the Lioness site, I am a dog lover. One of my ambitions is to own a couple of pugs one day but that would be much later in life as our apartment in Tokyo has a no-dog policy.
