Back in Tokyo

14 Jan

My hiatus is over and getting back to reality has been a little slow. I’ve been catching up on sleep and creaking back to my routine in Tokyo. What was familiar feels a little strange but I’m sure it’ll be a cozy fit again.

The air is chilly — temperatures are hovering around zero to three degrees. When the kangaroo flies off, I will definitely be using those heat pads left over from Nepal because the futon feels like a cocoon of ice without him.

I only have a few resolutions…because they are kind of the same every year — haha. But a few different ones would be to lose weight, eat less carbs, ham and sausages, plus be more focused and hardworking on my new content editor role. The other major challenge this year is that I would be working with the kangaroo. Alarm bells should ring in my head about this but I’m feeling positive and he’s a reasonable person at the end of the day so I don’t think we would face anything that cannot be solved.

The other thing is I’m actually really enthusiastic about my new job because the knowledge and experience I will gain will definitely benefit me and I could start my own thing too. It was hard letting go of writing articles for a living. I realised I’m just not great at it and it doesn’t make me much money. I know I’ve had some good highs with this path but overall I cannot continue this full-time in Japan. I’ve done this for six years and it’s difficult to say goodbye. It was my identity… But it’s time for a change.

2008 is also the big 3-0 year. Some people think it’s a big deal and some don’t. I think I sit in between. I just hope my 30s will bring that big wave of success to my career. I flailed a lot in my 20s and had plenty of fun along the way but it’s time for something meatier. I don’t think I’ll do anything drastic — well, who knows what the year will bring, eh? Change is the only constant in life.

I’ll write up my Nepal post soon. Stay tuned.
