ABOUT
How this blog started
As my first overseas experience, I wanted to record what I would see and feel, so I started Lioness in Japan at Blogger. I was travelling a lot in 2006-2007 so I listed this blog under travel. During this time, it was my hiatus from a full-time job, and a great way to keep busy.
In 2008, with my new role as a web editor, I wanted this space to become more than just a personal diary dumping ground, and have it showcase my professional life, too.
Why I moved to Japan
In early 2006, the kangaroo (my boyfriend and domestic partner) was posted to Tokyo by his company, an Internet software outfit based in Sydney, so I quit my magazine job and packed my bags to join him. We were doing long distance (me in Singapore; him in Melbourne) for two years so we made the decision to close the distance. And of course, I’ve always wanted to move out of my tiny island to see the world.
What this blog is about
As a writer, I am given to scribbling down whatever I am going through, so why not share it with others and hopefully be of help or amusement while I’m at it.
This blog primarily talks about the joys and challenges living in Tokyo as an expat, trailing partner issues, my interests in food and travelling, and navigating a location-independent, web job with a globe-trotting partner. The Internet is the new frontier for journalists — a way for those with wanderlust and a passion for writing to have a great career.
