A trip to the tax office

17 Mar

For the first time, I filed my taxes in Tokyo. I feel like a citizen of this town! I just wanted to remember this because it was actually a very good experience.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had painful, bureaucratic encounters, which left a sour after-taste and a horrible despair that I will never understand this difficult language.

Last week, I was all prepared to spend at least an hour or two at the tax office, and also factored in losing my way while finding the building. So, I relegated the whole of last Thursday afternoon as “Tax Day”.

But you know, I was done in like less than 20 minutes — it had a lot to do with the competent translators at the tax office. It was a half hour walk from my apartment, so I just soaked in the Nishi-azabu neighbourhood for a bit, bought some groceries, and went back to BB headquarters.
