A tribute to the nice folks at Freshness Burger

Sometimes it’s easy to just focus on the bad and the weird in Japan. For instance, there was a guy who for no reason cut up his female neighbour into pieces and flushed them down the loo, or the guy who screamed at me in the Tokyo Met pool, or quirks like the popularity of maid cafes.
Japan is the fifth safest nation in the world and it has one of the nicest and most honest people on the planet.
Although I’ve had many kind encounters here, I’ll just talk about my most recent one that was at Freshness Burger. The thing is, it was probably a regular routine for them, but to me, it was a thoughtful, simple gesture.
I rocked up to Freshness Burger in Ginza while waiting for Mariah Carey to appear. After making my order, I realized I was five yen short of the bill. I was so embarrassed and had to cancel my drink to be able to pay because they didn’t take credit cards. You know what they did? The staff included a cup of ice water for me to go along with my snack. You will never find this in Singapore.
It’s a tiny incident, but in a big city like Tokyo, it’s just a heartwarming experience and anybody who comes to Japan will love Japanese hospitality.
