A photo-letter from home
I think I come from a very Asian family and we don’t talk a lot. Long rambling phone calls are awkward so emails and photos have become our medium of communication. My elder sister got a new Sony camera, so she has been snapping photos like crazy and sent really good ones to me recently.
I’ve been meaning to post these pictures up because Taffy, my beloved pug, has grown back all her fur. Before, she was a mangy pooch with a hairless chest and her donut-shaped tail was straggly and thin.
My mum bought a SGD30 shampoo to help ease her itchy, flaky skin which did improve a little. Tired of the ineffective solutions that amounted to SGD100 after each vet visit, my mum (a very DIY kind of woman) took matters into her own hands. She read the label of the previous shampoo and it seemed the main active ingredient to stop the itchiness was sulphur, so she bought a bottle of pure sulphur and mixed it into some Head & Shoulders shampoo.
Not only did Taffy stop itching, but her fur grew back! She literally looks 10 years younger. Also, her aching joints are gone and she sleeps very soundly. Do you know that Japanese hot springs contain a lot of sulphur, which eases aching joints for people? That, in turn, made her gain back her weight. She was looking haggard and skeletal but we didn’t know exactly what was the problem.
She looks great, doesn’t she?
Our mini pinscher, Coffee, never had major skin problems but my mum’s special shampoo got rid of small skin bumps on her tummy.
All dogs have their way of asking for affection and Coffee does it by lying on her back and exposing her stomach. “Tummy rub, please!” she is saying.
Her other hobby is sun tanning on the car porch.
These two are constantly fighting for attention so it’s quite rare to see them relaxing next to each other like that without growling or circling each other and said person whom they want a pat from.
I think only dog-lovers will understand this post — I miss them terribly and I can’t ever get enough cuddles in with them when I visit. The downside about living in Tokyo is that pets are extraordinarily expensive to maintain and very few apartments allow dogs or cats. I don’t know when I’ll ever get my own but I hope that if we are stationary for a while with spacious digs, it’s something I would consider seriously.
